Vegan Political Prisoner Steve Murphy Urges Supporters to Boycott eBay
in Opposition of Live Animal Sales
Steve's Friends and Supporters,
Those of us with Steve Murphy's Support Crew have been looking into new ways to raise money for Steve's commissary fund. Many of you have been stellar and donated so that he can supplement his food while in prison and obtain the necessary vegetables, legumes, grains, etc in order to maintain a healthy vegan diet, and it is very much appreciated. In addition to food purchases, donations help Steve keep in touch with friends, family and all his wonderful supporters through the purchase of paper, envelopes, stamps, and email usage time.
We're ready to launch a new support effort that would involve raising money through recycling old and unwanted donated items by selling those items on eBay. We strongly believe this would be a good source of much needed funds, but there's a problem:
As you may or may not know, eBay's policies currently allow for the sale of live animals in their “classifieds” area. This area is a great resource for legitimate animal rescuers to list adoptable companion animals, and we applaud those who use this area of eBay for this purpose. Sadly, however, it's also open for breeders to list animals *for sale*.
This disgusting policy was brought to the support crew's attention by one of Steve's friends when we were about to launch this fund raising campaign, and, clearly Steve does not agree with the sale of sentient beings for the profit of greedy and abusive breeders. Steve firmly believes companion animals should be adopted, not bought, and knows that our animal shelters are overrun with loving adoptable animals and breeders shouldn't be allowed to sell their brand of misery on eBay.
Steve's official statement is as follows:
“I will never give this organization a dime so long as they continue to profit off the misery these precious little creatures suffer at the hands of greedy people. I know it's a great way to raise money for people like me in these situations but I just couldn't accept it knowing that on a different page of the website some jerk is trying to sell animals he breeds in cages in his backyard for profit. BOYCOTT EBAY!!! Tell them in no uncertain terms to STOP profiting off the abuse of animals.”
Please sign the following Change.org petition to send eBay a statement that you will not shop or list on eBay until their policies regarding the sales of live animals change.

Steve feels very strongly about this and stated “I would rather go hungry than support an organization that traffics abused and neglected animals for profit.” Until eBay changes their policies and this fundraising effort can move forward would you please consider making a small donation to Steve's commissary fund today?

All the Best,
